What is Digital Signature(DSC)?

A digital signature is used to prove someone’s identity on the internet and provide a reliable way to verify the authenticity of files and messages. Digital signatures are created by hashing a message digest together with a private key when generating a DSC. Like an analog signature, it enables the owner’s or sender’s identity to be verified. It also enables the recipient of a transmission to verify that it was sent by the claimed sender and has not been altered in transit. Digital signatures have strong legal validity and acceptance, since they are difficult to forge, easy to use, are legally binding and make forgery easy to detect. Digital signatures can be used to: A digital signature is different from other methods of signing files or messages such as pen-and-paper signatures, where the authenticator must be physically present; or the sealing of an envelope containing a message with wax and a signet ring, where the absence of any tampering with either the message or its attachments is obvious. Unlike an analog signature, the public key used to create a DSC (the private key) remains secret. That is, the public and private keys can be kept separate and a third party cannot use a government agency or personal data service provider to get the private key. In addition to performing cryptographic hashing, digital signatures also provide integrity and non-repudiation services.
